Mankato All Seasons Arena

Mankato All-Seasons Arena, formerly called Mankato Ice Palace is a two-sheet indoor ice arena located at 1251 Monks Ave in Mankato Minnesota. The Arenas south rink was erected in 1973, and the North Rink - with an olympic ice sheet - was added in 1998.  All Seasons arena is the current home for the Minnesota State University Mavericks Women's hockey team, and serves as a practice facility for the Men's team.  Additionally, Mankato East and West High school teams call the building home.  Prior to the Verizon Wireless Center opening in 1995, All Seasons Arena was the home for the Intercollegiate Mavericks Mens squads.  The Arena can seat 1200 spectators to cheer on several teams within southern Minnesota.  A sort of infamous piece of Minnesota professional hockey history took place within the Ice Palace on September 27, 1975, when the Minnesota Fighting Saints of the WHA held an intra-squad scrimmage vs. minor league affiliate Johnston, PA Jets before 1200 standing room only spectators in a Saints 9-6 loss - billed as the 1st professional hockey game ever held in Mankato.  All three Carlson brothers from Virginia, MN played with Jets that night and accounted for 2 goals and 4 assists on the brother Carlson line, in addition served as enforcers.  Jack Carlson sparred off in a fight with future team-mate Mike Shakey Walton and broke his nose which many recalled 'Shakeys nose was sideways'!  Then St. Paul Mayor Larry Cohen was in attendance that night and watched in disbelief and was quoted as saying; "My God, these guys are animals, what are they feeding them"!?
